Pastor Matt’s Story

Matt Nettesheim, pastor of Chesapeake Baptist Church, was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He spent his early life living in Iowa and graduated high school in Lafayette, Colorado. Soon after graduation Matt Nettesheim served in the United States Navy as an electronic technician and was honorably discharged in 1999.

September 10th, 1994 was a turning point in Pastor Matt Nettesheim’s life. It was on that day that, as a nineteen year old man, he TRUSTED CHRIST as his personal Saviour. His heart and passion for God are evident in his desire to introduce others to Christ and see them grow in their relationship with Him.

Sensing God's call to ministry, Matt Nettesheim enrolled at a local church Bible Institute, in Virginia Beach Virginia, and graduated in 2004. While attending, he founded a military ministry, taught a couples class and became the music minister.

In February of 2001, Matt Nettesheim was married to Mandy Standfield of Oklahoma. At the time of their marriage, Mandy was a young widow with three children, Jonathan, Benjamin and Nettesheim. Matt and Mandy have since had nine children together making one big happy family with ten boys and two girls.

Pastor Nettesheim was called to Chesapeake Baptist Church in 2009 by fourteen members. The church was struggling and could offer no pastoral salary; however, since that time God has blessed, and the congregation has grown from an average attendance of twenty to averaging over two hundred and fifty in the morning services.

Pastor Matt Nettesheim’s heartbeat is that of a pastor. He loves his church, and even through tremendous growth, Chesapeake Baptist Church has maintained its close-knit family atmosphere and its passion for serving people.

Under Pastor Nettesheim's leadership, the church weekly engages in strategic and systematic ministry to the Hampton Roads community including age-specific adult Bible classes, student ministries and children’s ministries, a bus ministry, Patch the Pirate Club, and a Help for the Hungry program.

God has blessed Chesapeake Baptist Church a beautiful property for ministry. Today, the church occupies 5 acres of land and has several buildings and a vision for the future.
